Blogging Enhances Communication

Published by under Uncategorized

Students can practice their skills in the target language by creating  and publishing on blogs.  A beginning student can compose simple sentences and ask questions using vocabulary and structures that they learned in class.  More advanced students can respond to discussion questions or prompts provided by the teacher or their classmates.

I see blogs as an excellent tool for teachers of less-commonly taught languages such as Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic.  They may often feel somewhat isolated and could use blogs to share ideas and resources.

I have learned, however, that blogs require time – and the commitment to keep them current – or the audience will be lost!

A new blog is created every second! Step into the world of blogging in the world language class. Blogging is a tool that can open up the world for students and teachers of languages. Because it is interactive, it aligns to all five national standards, Communication, Comparisons, Connections, Communities, and Cultures. Students are comfortable with the web 2.0 environment; they may be more willing to try out their new language in a blog than in a classroom! What are your thoughts?
